A loan of $1,075 helped to buy leather and soles.

Jorge Libardo's story

Jorge, 50, lives in Suburbio de Guayaquil, a periurban zone in Guayaquil. He manufactures leather shoes to sell at wholesale and retail. He’s been doing this since he was 16-years-old since he learned it from his parents.

At first, he only worked as an assistant but when his wife abandoned him he decided to buy a machine and open his own business. The decision was a good one because since then his profits improved and he’s been able to provide security for his children.

He set aside a room in his house where he installed his sewing machine and the cutting machine. He also has some shelves to display the merchandise once it’s finished. He works every day and his two children help him in the morning because they attend school in the afternoon.

He will use the requested loan to buy leather and soles to make sandals. Jorge has four children attending private school and his dream is to be able to help them with their university education.
