A loan of $1,200 helped to buy a breeding bull and calves.

Carlos Jose's story

Carlos is from La Concha in Teustepe District, Boaco Municipality. He’s married and a farmer growing corn and beans. He’s the father of three children who are in his care and are currently attending a local school.

Carlos started working in crops since he was 19-years-old with money he’d saved since he worked taking care of nearby farms since he was little. He invested the money he earned from his work in planting basic grains. Today, thanks to his hard daily work and his own efforts he’s managed to buy his animals (cows) and he’s also bought more land. His wife helps him in the business since in addition to planting corn and beans he sells curd from the milk produced by his cows as a source of extra income. He sells his products in his own community in order to save transportation costs.

He’s asking for the loan to buy a breeding bull and calves in order to increase his herd size for subsequent sale at better prices. His future plan is to repay the loan with profits from his cattle sales and to use any remaining profits to open a savings account to insure his and his family’s future since he hopes to become a financially independent person someday.
