Together As One Group's story

Meet the members of the Together As One group from Koidu, a city in Eastern Sierra Leone (their loan officer, Edward, is on the left). They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva.org, to apply for a 2,500,000 SLL loan that will break down to 500,000 SLL for each. With the help of this loan they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales and consequently improve on their living conditions.

Kumba is the leader of this group. The 32-year-old is married to a medical technician, and they have five children, two of whom are attending school. For the past ten years Kumba has sold cigarettes, milk, toothpaste, toothbrushes, batteries, shoe polish, etc. With her share of this loan, she will buy the above-mentioned items in larger quantities to add to her existing stock.
