A loan of $2,500 helped to buy an overlock machine and some nice quality fabric and to improve her work area with some small furniture items.

Nahida's story

Nahida is a 42-year-old Iraqi woman with a life experience filled with many challenges. She is a widow and since the death of her husband she has been raising six children alone. While three of the older children help with meeting the needs of the family, Nahida works from home. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, she is one of the many Iraqi woman who works from home, using her sewing skills to generate the income needed for her family.

Nahida has 12 years of experience and has gained a good reputation from her work. Being familiar with the needs and likes of her customers, she would like to make small improvements to her little business and provide a larger variety of services to her customers. She would like to buy an overlock machine and some nice quality fabric and improve her work area with some small furniture items. To be able to make these purchases she is now taking a loan in the amount of US $2,500 from Relief International Microfinance Iraq.
