Favour Group's story

Meet the members of the Favour group from Kono, a town in Eastern Sierra Leone. They are all local entrepreneurs who have come to SMT, a partner of Kiva, to apply for a loan of SLL 500,000 for each. With the help of this loan, they will be able to expand their businesses, make more sales, and consequently improve their living conditions.

Yel is the leader of this group (pictured in the middle of the photo in blue). The 25-year-old is married to a businessman and they have three children. Yel has been a businesswoman for four years now. She sells rice, flour, sugar, oil, etc. in the local food market. With her share of this loan, she will buy the above mentioned items at wholesale prices to add to her current inventory.
