A loan of $625 helped to buy fertilizer for a farm.

Asmat's story

Asmat is 25 years old, married and lives in the small village of Ukhuti in West Georgia with her husband, her one year old son and parents and grandmother, who is a pensioner. Her husband works in construction and the other family members run an agricultural business. They have livestock and a plot of land where they grow vine-trees, nuts and tomatoes. They work hard on this plot during the spring and summer to get a good harvest, which they sell in their town's local market. The family earns 700 Lari a month. Their income is hardly enough to provide food for six people, and they are unable to set aside money to buy needed household goods or renovate their house. They are applying for a loan to buy fertilizer so they can increase the productivity of their land and grow more tomatoes. They believe that doing this will increase their income and leave them with enough money to buy needed household goods and improve the family's living conditions.
