A loan of $1,600 helped a member to buy rubber seedlings and fertilizers for her farmland.

Sophea's Group's story

Sophea is from a rural village of the Ponhea Krek district of Kampong Cham province. She is the 40-year-old mother of one son who is now working at family’s business. She and her husband make a living through farming rice and planting rubber trees. They have been in the business for several years.

Sophea’s group consists of two members, both female. She is a second-cycle client with Kiva’s partner, while her co-member is a fourth-cycle client.

The first loan helped Sophea better support her family and improve her livelihood. From the loan now being requested, Sophea, who is the team leader, will use her portion to buy rubber seedlings and fertilizers for her farmland. She hopes this loan will enable her to increase her business so as to earn a larger income and make a better living.
