A loan of $750 helped a member to buy fertilizers for her farmland.

Saem's Group's story

Originally from a rural area of the Mongkul Borey district of Banteay Meanchey province, Saem, 61, is married with four children and she still has one son dependent on her. Like other villagers in the village, she and her husband earn a living through farming rice on two-hectares of farmland and she supplements the family’s income by planting flowers for sale. Having been in this business for nearly thirty-five years, the current business earns her about 22,000KHR per day.

Saem received her first loan with Kiva’s partner, VisionFund, four cycles ago and she has completely repaid the loans. She has successfully used the loans to improve her livelihood and has been able to afford to buy a water pump and a motorbike for her family. With a good business, she is leading her other two members to apply for a loan of 1,000,000KHR each. As the leader, she is going to use her portion to buy fertilizers for her farmland. She hopes to make more rice and earn more income so as to set aside some savings for her future needs.
