A loan of $1,800 helped to purchase a small generator, renew her work area, and buy some nice quality fabrics and raw materials.

Jwan's story

Jwan is a 49-year-old Iraqi woman. She is married and she is raising one child. With limited career options due to cultural restrictions and domestic constraints, Jwan is one of the many Iraqi women who work from home using her sewing skills to generate some income and participate in meeting the financial needs of her family.

She has five years experience with the little business, which she is continuously working to improve. In the past, she took a loan from Relief International Microfinance Iraq, which she used to purchase a new over lock machine and some nice, quality fabric. Having successfully repaid the loan, she is now taking a new loan to make further improvements. With the loan in the amount of 1,800 USD, she would like to purchase a small generator to allow her to work even during the hours of the day when the city power is out, renew her work area, and buy some nice quality fabrics, raw materials and an iron.
