A loan of $400 helped to buy banana plants and corn seed.

Albertino's story

Albertino is 29 years old. He lives alone in a house belonging to a family member, in the indigenous community of Pucharini (in the central Peruvian jungle).

Albertino has been farming independently for seven years. Before this he used to farm to help his family. He has three plots of land which he rents from other residents on which he grows bananas and corn. Over the years he has come to realize that his sales are more effective if he transports his crops to the town which is half an hour from his home. This year banana prices are favorable as they are selling for 1 sol, 20 cents a kilo. Bearing in mind he harvests around 1,000 kilos every two weeks, his profits are good. However, he also has to spend a large amount of money on weeding and fertilizing work, as he has to hire laborers who he pays each day. Albertino is an ambitious man. He would like to rent more land and thereby increase his production.

This is Albertino's first loan from MFP. He says that he will be punctual in making his repayments and will be active within his community bank (Sankori).

Albertino will invest this money in buying banana plants which cost 40 cents each. He will also buy corn seeds.
