A loan of $1,000 helped to dig a pond to raise fish and build a house for her children.

Heng's story

Heng Y., age 54, has eight children and lives in Kampong Cham province. She and her husband make a living as farmers, and each earns about $1 a day . Four of their children are married and live away from home, while two are factory workers who earn about $2.50 each per day. The remaining two stay at home and help their parents farm.

Heng Y. has applied for a loan from Kiva to dig a pond in which she will raise fish. She will use the balance of the loan to buy wood to build a stable house for her children.
