A loan of $400 helped to buy ten cellphones to sell.

Lourdes's story

Lourdes is 32 years old. For the past nine years, she has been living in her grandmother's house, in the city of Huancayo, together with her daughter Ángela. One year ago, Lourdes started selling cellphones, cellphone accessories and spare parts. She really enjoys her work because it has gone very well. She rented a space in the city center where there are a lot of people and, above all, she doesn't have much competition which makes it easier for her to make sales. Her work starts very early in the morning and she works until nightfall "I have to be at work all day so that I make more income. I even work weekends as I make more sales then", she says. Right now, Lourdes is saving up and getting ready for July when people buy more cellphones because of the 'fiestas patrias' (festivities celebrating the country's independence). Lourdes belongs to the 'Las Líderes del Centro' community bank and this is her first loan from MFP. She is grateful for the support that she receives from her community bank because now she will be able to improve her business. She pledges to be punctual in making her repayments because she would like to continue working with her community bank. Lourdes will invest her money in buying more cellphones to sell in her business. She estimates that she will buy ten.
