Samuel's story

Samuel is a 21-year-old man who lives in the city of Chincha with his parents and siblings. He is a very friendly, cheerful and hard-working young man who has a great desire to do well and support his family. Thanks to the support of his parents, Samuel was able to study for a degree in industrial engineering. In his free time he enjoys playing soccer and sometimes he cooks a delicious 'arroz chaufa' (a fried rice dish) to share with his family.

One year ago, with a lot of determination and enthusiasm, Samuel set up his small footwear business. He makes his sales as an itinerant vendor in the central market in his city. He works from early in the morning, around 10 hours a day. He is able to serve 18 customers on average. Samuel is very happy in his business and believes that it is doing well as his customers seek him out for his good products and prices, as well as his friendly and respectful service.

Samuel is very grateful to Kiva lenders because, thanks to their help, he will be able to buy merchandise (shoes, sneakers, boots, etc.) for men, women and children. This will give him a better-stocked business and he will be able to increase his sales and income. He would like to save up this money to build his own home so that he can improve himself and carry out his professional career. He would also like to be able to continue supporting his parents and improving their quality of life as they have always been there for him.
