A loan of $1,525 helped to buy unshelled rice, stock merchandise for the store and to buy a calf.

Juan Manuel's story

Juan Manuel, 37, is married and lives in a rural part of Lambayeque District in northern Perú. He lives in a small community of about 50 people and he has electricity and running water.

The activity Juan Manuel carries out is raising animals to sell while his wife sells various groceries in the only store in the zone. The business is home-based. The two of them are hardworking people with a strong drive to get ahead.

Because of this they are taking out a 4000 sol loan that will be used to buy unshelled rice which costs 130 new soles a fanega [measure of grain and seed of about a hundred-weight]; he wants to buy 20 fanegas with a total cost of 2600 new soles. He will invest the rest in the purchase of stock merchandise for the store and in another calf.
