Josephine is a 49-year old widow and the mother of three children ranging from 7 to 19 years of age. All of the children are in school. Josephine has been working as a vendor at the local market for 18 years. She sells staple foods (plantains) in season.Selling plaintains is a profitable activity, but because her stock is small she often runs out of merchandises and is unable to properly meet customer demand. This loan will allow her to stock up a large quantity in order to meet demand and thus increase her sales and her revenues. She will reinvest a part of her revenues into her business in order to [eventually] become a wholesaler, and use the rest to provide for her familys' needs (food and education).
