A loan of $775 helped to buy supplies and ingredients for the food he makes.

Javier's story

Javier, 49, has lived for 20 years in the house he inherited from his mother in the town of Huancas. He lives with his two children, Luzmila and Melania. He became a widower 12 years ago and since then has worked hard to support his family. He says he has always liked to cook, and while his wife worked as a crop farmer, he ran a restaurant where they sold Chinese food. "In my best times it was one of the best restaurants, but when my wife died I had to close it", he says with melancholy. So just a few months ago, he opened the business that he likes so much again, but now he only sells on weekends from home to the local people. He hopes to raise enough money, 5,000 PEN, to open a restaurant in the center of town.

He belongs to the communal bank "Cruz de espinas" and this is his second loan through MFP. Over the past few years he has earned a profit through his business, so he is very grateful. He is committed to paying back the loan on time and is glad to belong to his group because they support each other and are like a family.

Javier will use the loan to buy ingredients for the food he makes, such as onions, rice, sugar and eggs.
