Anuar Jesus's story

40-year-old Anuar has a metal shop in Malambo, a town on the east bank of the river Magdalena. It is one of the five towns that make up the metropolitan area of Barranquilla. The city of Barranquilla is 20 minutes away. Anuar has 20 years experience. He used to work as a welder in a shop which was located on a main road in the city. In parallel with this, he also worked for a number of different companies for five years. He gradually saved up enough to start working for himself. He acquired his own tools and started his own business. He has been running his workshop in his home for seven years, making doors, windows and grilles. He also works as a panel beater and car painter. He would like to grow and expand his business as he would like to increase his number of customers and carry out work on his house. However, he doesn't have enough working capital and knows that he must achieve these things gradually. He is applying for a Kiva loan (his first loan through Fundación Mario Santo Domingo) to buy raw materials for making doors and grilles which he has orders for. He will also start making some improvements to his home which will allow him and his family to live more comfortably. His family consists of his wife and their three children who are 8, 10 and 13 years old. He hopes to see his children become successful people in the future and so he works hard for them.
