A loan of $2,025 helped a member to buy forage and seeds.

Las Peñas Group's story

The “Las Peñas” (The Cliffs) communal bank will start its first cycle in Pro Mujer as part of the Achacachi Focal Center; it has 8 members led by a governing board headed by Veneranda. The members of the communal bank carry out a variety of business activities like: cheese making, potato and dehydrated potato sales, animal husbandry, pig raising and sheep raising.

Veneranda indicates that this is the first time she’s been in Pro Mujer having joined thanks to a promotional event in her area. She currently has a cheese-making business and also raises cattle and works in agriculture. She relates that she got a parcel of land twenty years ago and has worked it with her children ever since.

The loan she’ll take out now is for her livestock’s feed and for the crops. She will buy forage and seeds from suppliers and will sell her production in local street markets. This way of working allows her to generate income to support her family as much as possible since she’s separated and has four children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, she answers that she likes that the loans are easy.

In this group: Veneranda, Arminda , Sabina , Veronica , Felipe, Victoria , Mery, Santusa
