A loan of $900 helped to buy coffee plants.

José's story

José's family have been growing coffee for generations. It is a family tradition. When he was little, his father taught him and his siblings to work on the coffee plantations, carrying out a number of different jobs. Over the years, José learned all he needed to know in order to become a coffee producer. When he got married, his father gave him a plot of land and he started working for himself. José taught his children to work the land and, although they are all now married, they still help him with his weeding and cutting.

José grows both organic and conventional coffee. He would like to convert all his production to organic. In order to achieve this, he needs to replace many of the plants that he currently has growing. This is why he is requesting a loan. The process will take him 2 to 3 years and he will carry out the work in stages so that his production levels do not decrease. José has been saving money together with his children as they would like to buy more land so that they can increase their production and their assets.
