A loan of $2,775 helped a member to buy yarn.

Las Favoritas Group's story

The “LAS FAVORITAS” community bank are about to start their sixth loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Cascada regional office. The group has eight members and is run by a board of directors which has Romualda as its treasurer. The businesses that the members are engaged in are varied and include: making bricks, running a food business, starting a 'salchipapa' (fast food) business, providing public transport, selling underwear, selling sweaters and running a neighborhood store.

Romualda says that she has been a member of Pro Mujer for four years, having joined when she received an invitation from a friend. She currently has a craft business (knitting blankets). She says that five years ago she used to knit sweaters together with her sister but gradually started knitting blankets as it makes more money.

Romualda will use the loan she is about to take out to expand her capital (buying yarn). She will buy her yarn from suppliers in the city of El Alto. After she has made her products she will sell them in her sales location every afternoon. This work allows her to make income with which to support her family. She is married and has one child.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Romualda replied that she likes spending time with her fellow group members.
