A loan of $400 helped to carry out the much-needed fertilizing of her lemon plantation.

Maria Socorro's story

Maria is 31, in a common-law relationship, and has six children in her care. She lives in her own house with her partner and her children. The house is located in Tambogrande district in northern Peru.

The borrower lives in the rural part of the district and has electricity service. The "'Capital Semilla" (Seed Capital) program that Edpyme is carrying out with Kiva is focused on promoting access to credit for clients who normally have greater difficulty in obtaining it. Maria is one of the beneficiaries of this program.

The activity that the borrower carries out is livestock-raising: sheep, pigs and poultry, which she sells in the local market when they reach ideal size and weight. She also has one hectare of farmland where she harvests lemons weekly.

She has more than five years experience in livestock-raising and farming. Her partner has steady job on a farm in the settlement. Taking into account the needs of her business, María has applied for a loan of 1,000 soles for fertilizing her lemon plantation.
