10 Estrellas Del Norte Group's story

The “10 ESTRELLAS” (Ten Stars) community bank are about to start their first loan cycle with Pro Mujer, as part of the Alto Limo regional office. The group has nine members and is run by a board of directors which has Lidia as its president. The businesses that the members of the group are engaged in are varied and include: spinning vicuña wool, selling sweaters, selling potato and freeze-dried potato, running a store, selling empanadas, cakes and rolls, and making sausages.

Lidia says that she has been a member of Pro Mujer for three years. She joined through an invitation from a loan officer who visited her home. She currently has a business spinning and selling vicuña wool. She says that she started this business on the recommendation of one of her neighbors who earned a lot of money and was able to take care of her children. Lidia has been in this business for four years now.

Lidia will use the loan that she is currently taking out to increase her capital. She will raw vicuña wool which she will then spin and sell in the traditional weekend street markets in the city of El Alto. This work allows her to make income with which to support her family. She is married and has two children.

When asked what she likes about Pro Mujer, Lidia replied that she likes the health training and the loans.
