Benkadi 3 Group's story

The 10 members of the Benkadi 3 group are married women with an average age of 33, on average 4 children, and who all live in traditional family settings in Sirakele, one of the villages in Koutiala, the 3rd administrative region of Mali. They are working with the Soro Yiriwaso microfinance institution in order to be able to carry out their farming activities during the rainy season. This is their 7th loan with the institution. The previous loans have been properly repaid.

Rokia, crouching on the right of the picture, carrying an adz and seeds, farms groundnuts and corn. She plans to use her loan to buy agricultural inputs, seeds and small agricultural equipment, and to pay the labour costs for the cultivation of one hectare of farmland. After the harvest, the produce will be sold in her village and at the Koutiala market, to a customer base composed of men and women. She expects to make an average profit of 160 000 francs per crop cycle. This profit will allow her to repay her loan and to support her husband with the daily living expenses.
