Marleny is married and has 2 children who are 4 and 17 years old. She has always wanted to provide them with a good education, and since her husband's income is not enough to provide the family with a good quality of life, Marleny decided to start working about 3 years ago, selling fried food, in order to generate an income with which she can contribute to her home's finances. In the beginning, she sold the products in her house's sidewalk and thanks to the good reception they had, a friend of hers lent her a space in her snack bar, so that Marleny could continue selling her products. Thanks to the increasing number of customers, Marleny is looking for a loan to buy a fryer that will allow her to increase her production capacity and offer a better service to her customers. In this way she will get through, using her own assets and her business will continue to be a source of income, so that her family can have a good quality of life and better financial opportunities to progress.

Important Information

This loan is structured on Kiva as a bullet loan, which means a single payment is required at the end of the loan term. By Colombian law, Kiva's partner Interactuar is required to offer borrowers loans with a variable interest rate that fluctuates with the market rate. Because fixed monthly payments are applied first to interest and then to principal, Interactuar is unable to predict upfront what portion of each repayment would go towards the loan principal. This creates a challenge with Kiva's system, which doesn't allow for unpredictable principal payments, and can result in some Interactuar clients appearing falsely delinquent. To remedy this, the loan has an end-of-term repayment plan on Kiva, but the borrower will continue scheduled monthly repayments to Interactuar, who will then pass along the principal amount to Kiva lenders. This means that you may see repayments made on this loan throughout the repayment term, as opposed to receiving repayment in full at the end of the loan term.
