Rubén's story

For many generations, Rubén’s family has produced coffee; as a child, he began helping his father in the farm cutting and cleaning. With the passing of years, Rubén began amassing the necessary knowledge and experience to be able to grow his own coffee, independently. Rubén wakes up early every day to look over his coffee plants to make sure they’re in good shape. There are times when there’s not much one can do but wait to see the plant budding. During the busier times, like the harvest, his wife and children help cut the coffee. The whole production of organic coffee and during the last year, Rubén produced 8.5 tons of which he sold to the “Unión Regional de Huatusco” to be exported. This year Rubén wants to ncrease production and for that, he’ll need to sow 1,000 new coffee plants and buy organic fertilizer. He’s requesting a loan in order to make this investment happen. In the future he’d like to buy a plot of land to add to his assets; he’s already saving money for this.
