A loan of $1,775 helped to buy coffee plants and fertilizer.

Jorge's story

When he was 14 years old Jorge started to help his father in the coffee fields. He and his six siblings learned all there was to know so they could become independent producers in the future.

Now Jorge is 50 years old and he and his wife Rufina have four children who work in the fields inherited from their father some time ago. They grow organic coffee as Jorge is concerned about the environment; he does not use fertilizer that contains any chemicals. During the last harvest they produced two tonnes of coffee, not as much as they expected because of the rains.

This year Jorge needs to put in new coffee plants and buy fertilizer, the reason why he would like a loan. His greatest wish is to provide the opportunity for all his children to go to university. He told us with great pride and excitement that his eldest daughter would obtain her degree as an architect in a few days' time.
