Elsa

Bolivia
Cochabamba, Bolivia / Food Market

A loan of $1,450 helped to buy potatoes (working capital).

Elsa's story

Elsa is 23 years old and single. She lives with her parents but is economically independent. She makes a living selling potatoes and buys her merchandise in the Colomi market from farmers on Thursdays to sell it in Yapacani, Santa Cruz where there is a consolidated market. She has been in this business for more than one year.

For her, it is very difficult to get a loan from the banks because they have so many requirements. However, CIDRE IFD took the iniciative of going to this area and discovered that Elsa needed operational capital for the selling of potatoes. She invested the savings she had in the purchase of a plot of land to live on. Elsa tells us that she had little capital for the business; with this loan she will buy a larger quantity of potatoes and begin to save money to build her own house, which is one of her dreams.
