A loan of $225 helped to buy sewing supplies at wholesale.

Rosa Matilde's story

Rosa, 23, is from the city of Granada and is the mother of one son who is in her care. She has been a seamstress for two years and her educational level is elementary since her economic situation prevented her from completing her studies.

Despite her young age she’s a very hardworking person since she helped her mother while still little; her mother was in the same occupation and she gradually acquired experience and business savvy from her. Later on, Rosa with support from a girlfriend decided to travel to Managua in search of more customers to bring to her mother with the goal of helping with household expenses.

Then her mother became ill and left the business in Rosa’s hands which she’s moved forward with hard work and her own efforts. This is her first business and she gets help from her sister. She sells her products in Managua and Masaya to attract more customers. Her hope is to grow in production with various styles to offer customers.

She’s asking for the loan to buy fabric at wholesale, buttons and lace and all necessary accessories to make her outfits. Rosa figures that this investment will be of help because she’ll be able to offer her customers new styles of products to earn more profits for household expenses. Her future plan is to continue to offer high quality products to her customers and her immediate goal is to increase sales to earn better income in order to get ahead with her family.
