Clara Luz's story

Clara is a member of the “El Paraíso” (Paradise) communal bank in Coronel Portillo District, Ucayali Department. She’s 68-years-old, married and has eight adult children.

She’s been in this communal bank for thirteen years. She sells soft-drinks and beer. Her business is home-based. Her daughter who has her own family and lives with her helps her. Her husband is quite old, in poor health and needs much care.

She will use her new, 1,000 new sol, loan to buy 10 cases of beer, 5 cases of soft-drinks, 2 cases of Cifrut [brand of citrus drink], two packets of mineral water, three packets of 3-liter soft-drinks and 3 packets of 1-liter soft-drinks.

Income this small business generates will help her cover some extra expenses she has. Her children help her out economically because they are now adults and her husband is no longer able to work. She thanks Manuela Ramos for giving her the loans despite her age.
