A loan of $1,150 helped to buy chicks and feed.

Maria Benita's story

María is a member of the “Las Fresitas” communal bank in Calleria District in Ucayali Department. She’s 49-years-old, has a spouse and four adult children with families of their own.

She’s been in her communal bank for 27 cycles. She raises double-breasted chickens especially for June 24th which is the feast day of St. John.

She will use her new 3000 new sol loan to buy 50 double-breasted chicks, one sack of Purina feed, two sacks of nutritionally balanced feed, one jar of vitamins, 1 vaccine for chicks, 1 liter of Cresol [disinfectant], ½-sack of lime powder, two drinking troughs and two feeders.

The space she has available for raising the chickens is small and since she’s just starting out she can only fit in that number. She’d like to have more capital to build a larger corral and hopes that Manuela Ramos will increase loan amounts so that she can invest more and be able to build a small coop for the chickens.
