A loan of $1,150 helped to buy manure.

Jose's story

José, 43, lives in the city of Camaná with his beloved wife and 2 children. He has always been a happy, enthusiastic, and hardworking person that has worked side-by-side with his wife to get ahead. Sadly, he was not able to complete a degree because he had to work to meet expenses, but he would have enjoyed studying veterinary medicine. In his free time, he watches educational TV programs and the news and sometimes cooks a delicious Rice with Duck for his family.

On his own initiative and with his family's support, José farms a smallholding where he plants beans. He performs various farming tasks from early in the morning and can work about 10 hours a day. He likes his work since he has always loved the countryside.

José is grateful for Kiva loans because they allow him to cover the expenses and maintenance of his plantings. Buying needed manure allows him to maintain his plantings and, when the harvest is complete, receive a good profit. In the not-so-distant future, he hopes to be able to diversify his plantings and purchase livestock with this profit so that he can ensure a bright future for and the well-being of his family.
