Benkadi A Group

Composed exclusively of married women, the 10 members of the "Benkadi A" group live in polygamous households and are on average 33 years old with three children. They all live in the town of Togoya, Kolondièba Cercle, and know each other through neighbourhood, family and marital connections. They all run businesses during the rainy season.
With the goal of increasing their production, the group members joined Soro Yiriwaso and are on their ninth farm loan.
Kadia, seated in the photo, intends to use her loan to pay for seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, mattocks, and labour and hoeing costs for her field. She wants to grow one hectare of rice, peanuts, and beans. She hopes to produce one tonne of rice, one tonne of peanuts, and 100 kg of beans. A portion of her yield will be destined for sale to repay her loan, and the rest will be stocked for food. The profits from her sales will be used for clothing and to take care of certain household needs.

Elles habitent toutes dans le village de Togoya cercle de Kolondièba et se sont connues à travers des liens de voisinage, de parenté et de mariage. Elles mènent toutes une activité hivernale.
Dans le but d’augmenter leurs productions, les membres de l’association ont intégré Soro Yiriwaso et sont à leur 9eième prêt de campagne.
Kadia, position assise, elle compte utiliser son prêt pour acheter des semences, des engrais et des herbicides, des pioches et le labour et sarclage des champs. Elle veut cultiver 1 hectare de riz, de l’arachide et du haricot. Elle espère produire 1 tonnes de riz, 1 tonnes d’arachide et de 100kg de haricots. Une partie de ces productions seront destinée à vendre pour le remboursement de son prêt et le reste serait stocké pour la nourriture. Le bénéfice des ventes sera mis pour l’habillement et prendre en charge certains besoins du foyer.

Soro Yiriwaso is a microfinance institution that works primarily in rural and semi-urban areas of Mali to provide underprivileged communities with access to financial services.The organization facilitates access for disadvantaged clients, particularly women, to new resources and services, fostering solidarity and cooperation among its clients. Kiva lenders’ funds will enable Soro Yiriwaso to expand its outreach and target even more underserved Malians involved in business and agriculture.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
