A loan of $1,675 helped a member to pay for agricultural inputs, equipment, and labour costs.

Benkadi A Group's story

Composed exclusively of married women, the 10 members of the "Benkadi A" group live in polygamous households and are on average 33 years old with three children. They all live in the town of Togoya, Kolondièba Cercle, and know each other through neighbourhood, family and marital connections. They all run businesses during the rainy season.
With the goal of increasing their production, the group members joined Soro Yiriwaso and are on their ninth farm loan.
Kadia, seated in the photo, intends to use her loan to pay for seeds, fertilizer, herbicides, mattocks, and labour and hoeing costs for her field. She wants to grow one hectare of rice, peanuts, and beans. She hopes to produce one tonne of rice, one tonne of peanuts, and 100 kg of beans. A portion of her yield will be destined for sale to repay her loan, and the rest will be stocked for food. The profits from her sales will be used for clothing and to take care of certain household needs.
