Ricardo Manuel's story

Ricardo, 19, is a young man living in the beautiful city of Chincha which is noted for having a hot climate. It is the birthplace of great Peruvian sports heroes. Most of the residents are of Afro-Peruvian descent and are well-known for their delicious traditional dishes that they prepare very well. One of
Ricardo’s favorite dishes, therefore, is the delicious “Pachamanca.” When he has free time available, Ricardo enjoys listening to music very much above all because it helps him relax after a hard day’s work. Because of his parents’ few economic resources, he only attended secondary school but would have liked to have studied a university career.

Ricardo works very enthusiastically as a laborer in an egg-packing firm; he works about 10 hours daily. His work is very delicate because one has to pack the eggs very carefully. He believes that he does well in his business because he’s very responsible and above all very careful when doing his work.

Ricardo is very grateful to Kiva lenders because thanks to the help they’ve given him he will be able to do some home improvements like building walls that are currently adobe. He will also plaster, paint and repair the metal sheeting on the roof thus improving his parents’ quality of life since he lives with them and helps support with the fruits of his labor. In this way he will be able to continue working with more tranquility and continue striving to make his greatest dream a reality: to give his parents a good quality of life and to be able to have his own house and form a family.
