A loan of $775 helped to pay for fumigation and irrigation expenses and herbicides.

Reyna Elizabeth's story

Reyna, 27, is happily married and lives with her husband and their 2 small children, 7 and 1, in Nazca. She has always been a hard-working, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial woman who puts all her effort together with her husband to get the family ahead. Sadly, because of the need to work and cover expenses, she couldn’t study to be a professional but she very much would have liked to have done so. With her free time she likes to read and sometimes prepare a delicious arroz Chaufa (Peruvian fried rice) to share with her family. On her own initiative and thanks to the support of her family, Reynda rented a small piece of land where she grows butter beans. She spends about 10 hours a day starting very early in the morning with the farm work that needs to be done. She is happy in this work since her parents taught her from when she was very young and she wants to continue with the family tradition. Reyna is very grateful for the Kiva loans since thanks to them, she has been helped covering the costs of fumigation and the irrigation expenses that the plants need. This way Reyna can keep her crop healthy and also when the plants are ready, she can get a good income. In the near future she would like to buy her own land for future planting.
