A loan of $575 helped to buy plastic tables and chairs and a variety of other merchandise that has been pre-ordered through catalogues.

Mildred's story

Mildred is 49 years old. She lives south-west of the city with her family, which consists of her spouse and four children (between the ages of 22 and 30). She has one business where she sells food and another where she distributes a variety of retail goods during special periods of time. These businesses serve her very well. The food sales are aimed at employees of businesses that are located near her home. Every day she takes them lunches and/or snacks because they can't come to her home to eat them. She also sells delicious cookies called “chepa-corinas” that come from her hometown. And on the other hand she sells products through catalogues that promote cosmetics, perfumes, clothing, etc. Her goal for the future is to have her own home through the Sueños y Oportunidades (Dreams and Opportunities) project which is sponsored by the Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. As far as her business goes, she wants to continue increasing her small number of sales. This last goal is the reason for which she is asking for a Kiva loan that she will use to buy plastic tables and chairs to provide a more comfortable atmosphere for her demanding customers that she hasn't been able to attend to. She will also buy a variety of other merchandise like clothing that has been pre-ordered. She can then let her customers know and be more timely each time with them.
