A loan of $875 helped to buy coffee plants to renew his farm.

Marcelo's story

Marcelo gets up very early each day to work on the coffee farm that he inherited from his father when he married Irene. At first, it was a small parcel of land, but over time he has been able to extend it, thanks to his efforts and dedication. His wife and their 3 children also help him with this work, because it is a family business. When it is harvest season, he hires people because the job is too much for them to do on their own.

The coffee that he produces is partly grown with traditional methods, and partly organic. He wants to convert all of his crops into organic, because he can get a better price for them in the market and at the same time contribute to conserving the environment. To make this change he must put in new coffee plants, and this is why he needs a loan. He is also interested in receiving training from the “Unión Regional de Huatusco” organization so that he can take better advantage of the resources that he has and improve his quality of life. For Marcelo and his wife, their main concern is providing their 3 children with a good education. They want to send them to study for a university degree in the future.
