A loan of $825 helped invest in his general store.

Modern's story

Modern is 27 years old and lives in the town of Ntungamo in the Mbarara region of Uganda. He is married. For the past six years, Modern has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells all types of essential products.

To help expand his business, Modern has requested a loan of 2 million Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to invest in the business, and will help Modern to generate greater profits and add more stock. Modern hopes that in the future he will be able to expand his business into a larger enterprise.

Modern is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Modern, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
