Sylvia's story

Sylvia is 26 years old and lives in the town of Nansana in the Kampala West region of Uganda. She is single and has 3 children with 2 currently in school. For the past 5 years, Sylvia has been working hard to manage her shop, which sells charcoal at retail and wholesale.

To help expand her business, Sylvia has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more charcoal for resale. and will help Sylvia to generate greater profits and increase her capital stock. Sylvia hopes that in the future she will be able to start up a retail shop.

Sylvia is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Sylvia who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
