A loan of $900 helped to purchase a larger refregerator, as well as vegetables, legumes and pasta in order to stock up her business.

Maria's story

Maria is part of the "Fénix" communal bank, which belongs to the town of Talca.
She has been in the food sales business for a month. She comments that she works alongside her husband, since she prepares the lunches and her husband is the one who distributes them in his workplace. Her business is located in her own home. She works Monday through Friday and organizes her hours according to her availability.
She buys the merchandise and supplies she needs in various supermarkets and food distributors. Sometimes she orders her merchandise from distributors and they deliver it directly to her home.
One of Maria's goals for her business is to enlarge her house in order to have a big store and therefore serve her customers more comfortably.
With the loan she will purchase a larger refrigerator, as well as vegetables, legumes and pasta, in order to stock up her business.
Maria lives with her husband and her little 7-year-old son, who goes to school. Her dreams, as far as her family goes, are to take her son on a trip so he can see snow for the first time and also to sign him up for folkloric dance lessons.
Maria is very glad and thankful for the opportunity that Fondo Esperanza has given her, since it has allowed her to invest in her business. Furthermore, she feels very comfortable in the company of the other entrepreneurs from the communal bank, because they share various interests and activities which have also served as leisure moments for her. As for the training given in the meetings, she has learned to manage her business in a better way.
Talca belongs to the region of Maule, located in the country's central area. It's the administrative, economic and cultural center of the region, and it's the most important town in the Chilean Central Valley. In Chile, Talca is curiosly referred to using the phrase "Talca, París, Londres" ("Talca, Paris, London"). Among the legends told about that, some say that it derives from the original saying by an Englishman, "Talca parece Londres" ("Talca is like London"), because of the abundant fog that frequently covers the town in wintertime, reminiscent of the capital of the United Kingdom.
