A loan of $825 helped to purchase more sand to sell for building.

Martin's story

Martin is 27 years old and lives in the town of Kireka in the Kampala South region of Uganda. He is married and has three children, two of whom are currently in school. For the past eight years, Martin has been working hard to manage his small business which sells sand that is used for building houses.

To help expand his business, Martin has requested a loan of 2,000,000 Ugandan shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to purchase more sand to sell for building, and will help Martin to generate greater profits and pay his children's school fees. Martin hopes that in the future he will be able to own a hardware shop.

Martin is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Martin who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
