A loan of $600 helped to purchase animals, animal feed, fertilizer, and seeds.

María Ercilia's story

María is a member of the communal bank Nuevo Bankito La Ramada. She lives in a community which belongs to the canton of Nabón, a place of rugged terrain, cold weather, and large stretches of land where you can enjoy nature away from the city routine. Its people work raising animals, farming, and many go out daily to the city to work different jobs. They still maintain the culture and traditions of their peoples.

María is 42 years old, married, and has born seven children from her marriage. They are 23, 20, 17, 16, 12, 9, and 8 years old. Her oldest daughter is married and lives away from home, her next four children are disabled, and the two youngest go to a little school in town.

María works in agriculture and sells what she harvests to the community. She raises and sells animals, such as livestock, Guinea pigs, pigs, and chickens. She also works embroidering skirts and scarves, which she learned due to her skill.

She has been a member of the communal bank for three years, and will invest her new loan in the purchase of animals, animal feed, fertilizer, and seeds for her crops.

Her dreams are to improve her home and to give her children a good education, which they haven't been able to have due to their disability.
