Nabón, Ecuador / Agriculture

A loan of $600 helped to buy seeds, manure and animal feed.

Janeth Lucia's story

Janneth is a member of the “Nuevo Bankito La Ramada” communal bank. She lives in a community belonging to Nabón Commune, a place with fractured topography, cold climate and large extensions where one can enjoy nature away from city routines. Its people raise animals, farm and many head into the city daily to work in various economic activities; they still preserve the culture and traditions of its peoples.

Janneth is 28-years-old, married and has had two children who are 9 and 7-years-old and are attending the little local elementary school. Her husband works as a bricklayer in the canton or in the city of Cuenca. The house they live in is theirs.

Janneth does housework and also raises cattle, pigs and guinea pigs; she also farms and what she grows is both for home consumption and to sell.

She’s in her second loan with the communal bank and will use it to buy seeds, manure and animal feed. Her goal is to have a business of her own like a store.
