A loan of $900 helped to buy supplies for her accounting practice and to pay for repairs to her vehicle.

Laura's story

Laura is a member of the Communal Bank “Jesus Obrero” which is located in the city of Curicó. She has worked as an accountant for 20 years. Laura says that she works from her home Monday through Friday, but on other occasions she works at an office located in the central part of the city. In order to get downtown, she drives a vehicle that is also used for traveling short distances to buy supplies for her two business locations. Laura mentions that her supplies are purchased in the city of Santiago and from distributors at low cost, which is financially convenient. With this loan, one of her goals is to have a location downtown that is more comfortable for her as well as her clients, some of whom come to her house while the others go to her office.

Laura lives with her 21-year-old son who is studying at the university. Her dreams include buying a piece of property where she can relocate her practice and attend to all of her clients at the same place. This will help her generate more income and lead to a better quality of life. Laura is very pleased and appreciative of the opportunity provided by Fondo Experanza to invest in her business. In addition, she feels very comfortable being in the presence of other entrepreneurs in her Communal Bank group with whom she shares different activities and interests. Their meetings also provide her with a moment of distraction.

Curicó is located in the region of Maule, an area in the central part of the country. The climate in Curicó is similar to that of the Mediterranean and is considered to be one of the most pleasant in the country. Curicó is also known for its wine culture and the natural beauty of its surrounding areas. Even though the job market has gotten stronger, this area continues to be one of the poorest in the country according to the last census.
