A loan of $600 helped to purchase fabrics, lace, fasteners, and other sewing materials.

Zoila Lucia's story

Zoila is a member of the "Feria Libre" communal bank. She lives in Ricuarte Parish in Cuenca. This parish is known for the variety of its local cuisine; the people there work in agriculture, livestock, and commerce. The parish is surrounded by low hills.

Zoila is 51 years old. She is a widow, and in her marriage she had four children, three of whom are adults who are married and live independently. Her last daughter is nine years old and is studying in a school in the city. Zoila lives in a house that she owns.

Zoila works in sewing, which she learned while working twelve years ago. Now she works from home without a fixed schedule. This is the fifth loan Zoila has taken out with the communal bank, and she is going to invest it in fabrics, lace, fasteners, and other sewing materials for her business.

Her dream is to have a small factory.
