A loan of $3,600 helped a member to buy cooking utensils and pans.

Solidaridad Group's story

Paulina is 53 years old, married and has three children. Her husband works as a lathe operator and she has a food business. When she started out, she only had a small cart which she wheeled through different neighborhoods. After a while, she managed to buy a larger, three-wheeled cart, a display case and some benches, and set up her business just outside her house. There she prepares a variety of different foods such as picarones, 'cachangas' (a bread-like fried dough) and 'yuquitas' (yucca fries) which she sells to customers. Thanks to this work, she has been able to pay for one of her daughter's studies. However, in the future, she would like to find larger premises where she can set up her business. On this occasion, Paulina will use her loan to buy cooking utensils and some new pans as the ones she currently uses are worn. Paulina's community bank is called 'Solidaridad' (Solidarity). She has been a member for five years.
