A loan of $825 helped to buy more essential commodities like milk, bread, sugar and soap for resale.

Fred's story

Fred is 30 years old and lives in the town of Maganjo, in the Luwero region of Uganda. He is married and has 2 children. For the past 2 years, Fred has been working hard to manage his retail shop, which sells sugar and soap. To help expand his business, Fred has requested a loan of 2000,000 Ugandan Shillings from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to buy more essential commodities like milk, bread, sugar and soap for resale, and will help Fred to generate greater profits and pay for his family's medical expenses. Fred hopes that, in the future, he will be able to expand his business into a whole sale shop. Fred is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs, like Fred, who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for microloans.
