Chen's story

Chen is 41 years old. She is married and resides with three children in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. She has been running the services of grinding rice and fattening up pigs for more than a year, earning approximately 11 USD per day. Her husband is a rice farmer who earns about 5 USD per day. One of her children is a garment worker who earns about 4 USD per day. In order to improve her family’s finances, Chen is requesting a loan of 1,200 USD to purchase a walking tractor to use for tilling her farmland as well as for rental. This purchase would enable her to generate more income to support the family. In the future, she would like to purchase rice to resell for a profitable price and help her children earn bachelor’s degrees. Moreover, she hopes to build a new house as soon as possible.
