A loan of $950 helped to buy food in order to increase the stock in her grocery store.

Alegría's story

Alegría, age 57, is married to Teodoro, the father of her five children. She currently lives with her husband, one of her children, and two grandchildren.

Her business is selling groceries and food in general. She has a grocery store that she set up in her house. She started six years ago because one of her children was very sick, and she needed to pay the expenses for his care.

At the beginning she bought small quantities of food, and she managed to grow little by little. She did this through effort and her husband’s help with taking care of the customers. She has a great desire to continue and to increase the stock of her merchandise.

This is her 12th loan with MFP since the start (close to six years) when she learned about the loans from this microfinance institution. She has felt that she has a support in order to continue with her business. She also feels good in her communal bank. She knows most everyone, and now new people are joining. She hopes they will be responsible like the rest of the group.

She will use the requested 2,500 soles to buy groceries and foods wholesale for her grocery store. She will also buy sweets because these products are in great demand.
