A loan of $1,075 helped to buy sound equipment for his musical performance business.

Carlos Alfonso's story

Carlos has lived for a number of years in San Buenaventura, an urban parish in the city of Latacunga, located in Cotopaxi province, Ecuador. This parish is named after the patron Saint Dr. San Buenaventura, a person who, according to popular beliefs, accomplished many miracles for the inhabitants of this area. This is also the place where Carlos, for 2 years, has offered his musical art, whether it is through performances with his guitar in a crowded corner of the city, or through his magical performances on the violin or electric piano at a party where he has been hired to play.

In San Buenaventura parish, and in the region as a whole, the people have a strong attachment to the musical arts. Thanks to this, Carlos developed his love of music ever since he was a schoolboy, and he decided to delight people with this art.

This is the first time that Carlos has requested a loan from Kiva. He will use the loan to acquire some speakers, or amplification, which will allow him to improve the quality of music that he can offer in the parties and houses where he is hired. He knows that, in spite of working about 12 hours a day, he always needs to provide better service. For this reason he is always working hard and exerting himself to excel, and allocating time between his work and his studies.

His dream is to have a well-equipped musical group, but he knows that in order to do this, he must take the first step. He will do this with the money that Kiva is providing him.

Carlos' next step will be to obtain a higher income that will allow him to help his family financially.
