A loan of $650 helped to buy supplies and raw materials for making new designs, as well as a variety of merchandise.

Gloria's story

Gloria is 41, and lives in the municipality of Soledad. Here she works as a dressmaker making clothing, work that she prepared for through training programs, beginning in 1994. In 1996 she launched her business venture, making simple articles of clothing for her friends and family members that she made to measure. They brought her their fabric and supplies. In this way, she only offered sewing services. She gradually perfected her skill and increased her clientele. As well, Gloria began to buy raw materials and to sell amongst her clientele, which increased each day. Two years ago, taking advantage of its sales potential, she added a commercial activity through which she sells products she promotes with specialized catalogs, alternating this activity with her old business of dressmaking. With both she generates parallel income streams for supporting her household of three children, ages 18 to 21. Her goal is to expand her dressmaking workshop and obtain contracts through which she will achieve higher revenues than she currently gets. Now she is applying for a credikiva loan, her first from Fundación Mario Santo Domingo. With this she will buy supplies and raw materials for sewing new designs, as well as a variety of merchandise. With this investment, she will increase her portfolio of customers, and as well, her sales will benefit, producing new income.
